MPNCDA Supports Shriners Hospital for Children with $10,000 Donation from 2005 Auto Show "We are so delighted the Portland International Auto Show chose to help the Shriners Hospital kids. It is groups such as the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association that have allowed the hospital to provide care at no charge to children from the Pacific Northwest for more than 80 years," commented, Tom D'Esmond, Administrator of the Portland Shriners Hospital. "We hope this is the beginning of a long-term friendship." In its first year as the auto show's primary benefiting charity, members of the Shriners fraternity were excited to help the Auto Show partner with their philanthropic namesake. The popular "Kader Klowns" from the local Al Kader Shriners organization participated in the event, as did the lively marching band at the Pioneer Square kick-off celebration. Entertaining children and adults alike, both groups reminded show-goers and the public about the Shriners philanthropic mission to care for children with serious medical needs. The Association's contribution to the Shriners Hospitals for Children reflects its long-held commitment to active community involvement. The Association along with member dealers has donated millions of dollars benefiting Oregon nonprofit organizations. The Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association has served the local automobile community and industry since 1914. The association now represents close to 100 new car and truck dealers in the Portland metro area and is strong supporter of automotive education programs and charitable causes throughout Oregon. For more than 80 years, the Shriners Hospital in Portland has been serving children from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, British Columbia and the Yukon Territories. The 40-bed Portland hospital is part of the Shriners network of 22 health care facilities throughout North America that treat children with orthopaedic challenges, burns and spinal cord injuries, free of charge. Today, the Portland hospital serves more than 8,000 patients annually. For more information, call 503-221-3463 or visit www.shrinershq.org/shc/portland/. | |||
